Lesser Horseshoe Bat training in Curraghchase - great success!
HI all,
Last nights Lesser Horseshoe Bat (LHB) training in Curraghchase was a great success. We had 22 members attend, for some it was their first time on a bat walk and for others it was an advancement in ther training in the identification of Irish bats. We saw the LHB roost and watched LHBs emerge, There were Leislers Bats, Common Pipistrelles, Soprano Pipistrelles and Myosis species also present. We had a range of different bat detectors present and both young and old enjoyed the event. Hearing the beautiful song like warble as the bats emerged (along with the nearby singing donkeys) was just magical. Certainly a memory I will treasure.
In the coming weeks, many committee and group members will be focusing on completing their volunteer surveys for Bat Conservation Ireland including Car based bat surveys, BATLAS 2020 surveys, Brown Long-eared Bat Roost Surveys and Daubentons Bat Surveys. If you would like to assist someone taking part in one of these surveys, come along to our next bat meet up and/or let us know and if there are any spots available we can put you in touch with the right person. If you have committed to taking part in a bat survey and would like some support, whether it is through equipment training or to have an extra eqperienced person along just let us know and maybe we can help out.
