August Lesser Horseshoe Bat training

HI all bat group members,

As some of you know, we like to have a bat meet up on the first Friday of every month.

This week on the 3rd of August at 9.15pm we will do some bat training and a bat walk near to Curraghchase forest park where we hope to hear some Lesser Horseshoe Bats, amongst other bat species. Meet at the entrance barriers to Curraghchase park and park on the roadside. Note that as some of this walk will take place along this road, it will be essential that you bring a torch and/or a high visibility jacket at a minimum and any children who are attending will have to have a high visibility jacket on and be old enough to take direction and not put themselves in any danger. There may be some cars along this road and it may be necessary for us to stand in the wet ditch so boots are a good idea.

Lesser Horseshoe Bats are our rarest and most protected species so many of our members will be very excited by this walk I'm sure.

This training session will be essential for any of you who hope to attend our event with the Vincent Wildlife Trust and Living Limerick on the 20th, where we will be doing an emergence roost count at a Lesser Horseshoe Bat roost.

This event will be weather dependant so if it looks likely to rain, we will have to cancel/postpone unfortunately. I'll send out an email and post to the facebook page if its looking like this is the case.

Hope to see you all there this Friday.

Tanya
